The Band Perry have named their sophomore album Pioneer. They announced the news and revealed the album cover via a video on their official website yesterday (Thursday, February 14th). Pioneer will be in stores on April 2nd.

The new album is described as being "steeped in country tradition, with rock and roll elements both on performance and songwriting."

The project was produced by Dann Huff, who has worked with Keith Urban, Rascal Flatts, and Faith Hill, among others. The trio originally planned to work with Rick Rubin on the album, but had a change of heart.

Reid Perry said, "When we set out to record Pioneer, the three of us drove across the country from Greeneville to Malibu to work with one of our musical superheroes, Rick Rubin. Our time in the studio with Rick was so incredible because during our early sessions he challenged us to set higher goals as songwriters."

Neil Perry said, "With that experience came the realization that we needed to take the music back home to Tennessee and have Dann Huff bring the songs to life with his production. Sometimes where one starts off is not where one ends up, which is a big theme for us on Pioneer."

The lead single from Pioneer, "Better Dig Two," topped the Billboard Country Chart this week and marked their third Number One at country radio. The song is the fastest-rising of their career and is already closing in on 1,000,000 copies sold.

Earlier this week, The Band Perry was nominated for Group of the Year at the upcoming Academy of Country Music Awards, which will air on CBS on April 7th beginning at 8 p.m. ET.
