Cathy and I have been married for nearly a quarter of a century. But the University of Texas may have found the secret to a happy marriage! If you are someone who gets done with work at exactly 5:00 P.M. so you can get home and spend as much quality time as possible with your wife, she would actually be a lot happier if you didn't do that!
According to the University of Texas study, the key to a happy marriage is a husband who works long hours. Husbands who worked at least 50 hours a week had the happiest wives.
Here's what's interesting about the study: the wives are happier because men who work longer hours make more money; which means they can afford a maid. That allows the wife more time to exercise and stay healthy.
Now, in case you're wondering, the study also found the effect isn't reversed. When a wife works at least 50 hours a week, it doesn't lead to a happier marriage.
